GO AND DO THE SAME
We as a church are called to look around us and find the hurting, take the risk to reach out and be involved in healing. We are people who have carried the Good Smaraitan story with us for a lifetime. We are also called to live out this story in a real way by the work we do. Our Stewardship Committee challenges you to GO AND DO THE SAME as the stranger on the highway.
This year our Stewardship Campaign begins on September 18th. We will discern how stewardship is a spiritual practice. We will ask the important questions of how we offer our life to Christ through our financial gifts, our time, our talents and our prayers. Enclosed are cards to prayerfully look over and fill out as you make your covenant to Northeast UCC. Please notice that there are many ways to be involved in the life of this church.
On Sunday, October 16th, we will gather as a community of faith, to make a covenant of who we will be as Christ’s partner. And, we will also make our individual covenants to be invested in Christ’s work in this community. Will we have the courage to do the unexpected? To pay attention to God’s signs in our world? To be risk takers as we reach out to those seeking to be whole? To participate as partners in healing in the name of Christ?

WORLD COMMUNION SUNDAY/
BREAD FOR THE WORLD SUNDAY
October 2, 2016
On October 2nd during Sunday morning worship, we will celebrate WORLD COMMUNION SUNDAY.
During a time in our world where there is so much division and conflict, we find a place to gather and celebrate that we are one in Christ. As Paul said in his letter to the Galatians to a struggling Christian Community: You are no longer Jewish or Gentile, slave nor free, male nor female, we are one in Christ. Our world deals with disagreement by abuse, walls, fences, weapons, and words that belittle. But, if we can, instead, meet at Christ’s table and share the feast of GRACE, we find that we have more in common in our lives. These things unite us.
You are invited to a meal of joy where everyone is cherished and loved...a table where all are one. We will have a table overflowing with: cornbread, buttery biscuits, matzah, tortillas, fry bread, rye bread, naan, bread that fills our souls and bodies. This bread will be bread from all parts of the world to symbolize that we are ONE IN THE SPIRIT, ONE IN CHRIST.
This invitation is an informal but powerful one. For Jesus is both the host and the guest. And it is Christ who will make us one. Come to this table of peace, sanctuary, rest, celebration and forgiving love.
BREAD FOR THE WORLD – AN OFFERING OF LETTERS
OCTOBER 2, 2016
Because we are a church committed to “GO AND DO THE SAME”, we will see Commitment Sunday as an opportunity to ACTIVELY be involved in the work of Christ, in ending hunger in specific ways.
The theme for BREAD FOR THE WORLD this year is “Survive and Thrive”. Each year we are asked to write letters to our representatives about specific legislative bills. This year Bread for The World will focus on the US Children’s Nutritional Program and strengthening its funding in the national budget.
We will write letters during Sunday school and Fellowship time and present them with the offering for blessing during worship.
Dear Senator____, or Dear Rep._____,
Our country has led the way in improving the nutrition and health of mothers and children so they can achieve their full potential. We have seen tremendous progress, but our work remains unfinished. My faithcalls me to urge that we continue until every mother and child has the chance to survive and thrive. Every life is precious.
As Congress finalizes funding for next year, I ask you to support an increase in funding for international maternal and child nutrition programs in the Department of State foreign operations appropriations bill's global health account.
